The power of 30 days, and some really cute aprons

This steve pavlina dude is unbelievable. I mentioned a while back about self discipline and how I’m working it in to my life (or not). I also mentioned steve and his website in that same post. Since I found his site- I have found myself frequenting it more and more. He is amazing in his zeal to improve himself and the life of others. One of the things he does when he wants to make a change is to try that thing for 30 days figuring that it’s enough time to gather significant data to see if you want to stick with the change. If you decide that you don’t want to- then you can always go back to the old way, but at least you made the effort. Read the articleto understand the logic better. It’s really quite simple

Right now I feel drawn to change my nutrition in little ways. After having kids I think the deficiencies in my body have shown up more readily, especially since all my energy is going to breastfeeding and just staying sane for my family. My hair has thinned, my skin is tempermental, the fat in my body has moved to different places than it used to be and I just don’t quite have the same vigor and zest that I used to have.

I posted about my ice cream obsession and went for about 3 nights without ice cream, and at the same time I added a green smoothie to my diet and upped my fresh veggie intake.

Last night we went out to eat at a buffet. There was plenty of yummy healthy food there. I ate some of it and overate a little bit (not to much- but enough to call it overeating)
I was going back and forth in my mind to see if I wanted to eat some dessert. I decided to do it- mostly because I was curious if I would be able to tell a difference in my mini experiment.

Well…I did tell a difference, and right away. I tasted just a “little bit of the fake ice cream with heath bar”, and a “little bit of the brownie” and a “little bit of the pudding”. Then when I finished that I just had to have a “little bit more”. Today I found it easier to give in to that craving as I had already eaten a piece of chocolate by 4 pm. I didn’t eat ice cream tonight- but I did have 2 more pieces of chocolate and I had planned some green jello fluff stuff for dinner with the missionaries which is basically sugar.

So…I am challenging myself to a 30 day challenge. I might as well take the no sugar plunge I was thinking of taking I might as well start tomorrow. No time better than the present.

I just looked at my calendar- so from Saturday March 29- Tuesday April 29th I will be avoiding desserts/ice cream all the while increasing my fresh veggie/green smoothie intake. Wish me luck. I know there will be at least one temptation every week for me to dodge because I am in charge of several get togethers that include food, friends and fun. One of them is at my house. It’s the cooking group I’m in charge of, and the focus this month is…(drumroll please) you guessed it….DESSERTS! I’ll have to come up with something nutritious and delicious- what a challenge- but I’m up for it. Anyone else care to join me?

I’m also going to make me a sticker chart and put a sticker on my chart each day that I meet my goal. Then at the end of the 30 days I am going to buy me one of these. Aren’t they just soooo cute???

wish me luck :-)
